All About Dinesh Karthik And His Cricket Career

Krishnakumar Dinesh Karthik is born on 1st June 1985 in a Telugu family in a beautiful landscape of Tamil Nadu named Madras which is popular for its breathtaking greenery.  He went to different schools both in Kuwait and India and was familiar with the “quick change” thing and knew how to handle it.

His father was a normal worker who went to Kuwait to earn some dinars to feed his family and give his family a better life. Even though his present seems sympathetic, he was a first division player from Chennai which is a great achievement in the field of cricket. He had the talent but the circumstances didn’t allow him to fulfil his dreams, and that’s where Dinesh Karthik comes from.

Family Backgrund Of Dinesh Karthik

His father trained him tremendously and used to throw leather balls quickly towards him in the training sessions which made Dinesh Karthik a wicket-keeping batsman. The fact that his father was not able to fulfil his dreams of playing for India, he provided everything Dinesh Karthik needed to become a national level cricketer.

He trained him so hard that no limits would limit him from going ahead in the game, which would definitely make his father proud. There were some family problems regarding the future of this talented cricketer as it always is in a middle-class family but his father didn’t let him give up on his passion. His family was somehow scared of letting Dinesh Karthik play cricket and not focus on his studies because they didn’t want him to be lost in the future.

But his father stood with him, and so did his entire family to support him which would lead him to a better path in the span of a few years. Since he trained hard, he got selected in the under-14 cricket team in 1999. When he proved himself there, he got promoted to the under-19 Indian team back in 2000/01. Since then, he didn’t look back and quickly made his National appearance after a couple of years of that season in 2004.

He married Nikita Vanjara in 2007 but their marriage didn’t last long and they both got divorced in 2012 as his wife had an affair with another Indian cricketer named Murali Vijay. Dinesh Karthik and Murali Vijay were good friends but since this incident, they don’t want to look at each other’s faces.  After a few years, he once again got engaged to Dipika Pallikal, an Indian squash player back in 2013. They formed a good and healthy relationship for a couple of years. After a couple of years of relationship, they got married in 2015. Recently they were blessed with really beautiful twins in Oct 2021 who’re named Kabir and Zian.

Achievements Of Dinesh Karthik

• Dinesh Karthik is one of those rare players who has scored 19000 first-class runs which is achieved by a few Indian batters. He joins the likes of MS Dhoni, Yuvraj Singh, and a few more Indian legends. This underrated stat proves how a hard-working man DK is been throughout his journey before joining the national team.

• In his overall career, Dinesh Karthik is the 25th in most innings taken before scoring a duck, which is 41 innings. He’s ahead of some really good cricketers, the likes of MS Dhoni, Shoaib Malik, Jason Roy, Suresh Raina, and Cameron White.

• Dinesh Karthik is 7th in highest T20I Strike rate list with the strike rate of 362.50 which came against Bangladesh in Nidahas Trophy back in 2018 when the team needed him to go big that night. India needed 35 in the last two overs when Dinesh Karthik scored 29 off 8 balls with the strike rate mentioned above. In the last over then, India needed 5 runs which would end up Karthik hitting a big six to finish the match. This inning is believed to be the best innings of his career.

All Format Career Summary Of Dinesh Karthik

Test cricket Career Of Dinesh Karthik

Dinesh Karthik made his test debut against Australia in the 4th test between the two nations back in October 2004. He replaced Parthiv Patel in that match and would end up scoring 14 runs in both of the innings and take two catches. Even though he scored low, he was appreciated for his keeping skills by the Indian staff after the match.

After this series, he played against England and South Africa for a few test games in which he didn’t score many runs. He did keep well enough in the mentioned series but keeping alone won’t help you survive in the test cricket. And that’s where Dhoni came to play and would eventually take place of Dinesh Karthik. In his short test career, he has some good memories to look for.

ODI Cricket Of Dinesh Karthik

After scoring big in the Duleep Trophy against West Zone, he was recalled to the Indian ODI quad in April of 2006 against England for the last ODI. This was to give MS Dhoni a break. He didn’t get to bat as the Indian top-order crushed the England bowling unit and won the game by 7 wickets. Even though he didn’t get to bat, he was retained for the West Indies tour. He had enough opportunities in the ODI format to prove his ability.

When Yuvraj Singh got injured before the series against South Africa which again opened the window for Dinesh Karthik but he failed to keep going with the bat in the entire series. He scored a combined 42 runs in the 3ODIs with an average of 14.00. His best score in this series was 17.

In the West Indies series, he was picked once again and then he scored decent runs in the 3ODIs series. He opened the innings for India and scored 67, 4, 42 consecutively. India then won the series 2-1. The early failures with the bat don’t justify the fact that Dinesh Karthik is been one of the decent players with the gloves on.
