As we know that, the T20 men’s world cup 2021 is going to start on the 17th of October. ICC has done all the preparation regarding the commencement of the tournament. 

16 teams will be taking part in the ICC men’s T20 world cup 2021 and ICC T20 world cup Namibia squad 2021 one of them.

The team that will stay till the last and performs well will take the title. All the teams participating are very good teams and they all have created mind-blowing records. In this article, we will know about the Namibia squad for ICC T20 world cup 2021. Like Papua New Guinea, Namibia is going to make its T20 world cup debut this year. They will play in group A in the first round action. An international-level player, David Weise has been selected in the Namibia squad for this tournament. He is a former South African player. When the new squad was announced, David Weise is selected in the Namibia squad.

The squad consists of- Gerhard Erasmus (C), Stephen Baard, Karl Birkenstock, Michau Du Preez, Jan Frylinck, Zane Green, Niccole Lofie – Eaton, Bernard Scholtz, Ben Shikongo, JJ Smith, Ruben Trumpelmann, Michael Van Lingen, David Weise, Craig Williams, Picky Ya France.

The squad will be led by Gerhard Erasmus. The squad has young players and they have played many matches and they are good players. The young talent has shown their cricket skills in matches against Uganda, South Africa, and Zimbabwe. The main part of the squad is the former player of South Africa who has been selected in the squad. The squad consists of new young fast bowlers and spinners and all-rounders who have played six ODIs and twenty T20 matches until 2016, they have lots of experience of playing T20 matches all over the world.

They have played so many T20 domestic matches that they are unbreakable in T20 matches. Jean Pierre Kotze and Zhivago Groenewald will play as opener batsman. Zhivago Groenewald is also a spinner in the squad and plays a vital role in the squad. Namibia has its first match with Sri Lanka on the 19th of October. Nicole Loftie Eaton is one of the young players and leg-spinning all-rounder also. The squad also consists of a left-arm trio, Ruben Trumpleman, JJ Smith, Jan Fry link.

As they are playing first time in the ICC cricket world cup tournament, it is very important that they have to perform well and maintain their score on the scoreboard so that they can go into the final match. As we know that they are in group A, they have to qualify to go into super 12. The tournament will start on the 17th of October and ends on the 14th of November.

The tournament will be played in Oman and United Arab Emirates. Due to corona, the tournament was not able to be conducted in 2020. The weather of UAE is also in favor of the players because in the month of November temperature of Dubai is not as hot as in summer.

Gerhard Erasmus is the captain of Namibia in ICC T20 world cup 2021. His full name is Merwe Gerhard Erasmus. He was born on the 11th of April 1995. He is a Namibian cricketer. He is a right-handed batsman and right-arm leg break fast bowler. He is known for his batting and sometimes he also plays as a wicket-keeper. He is playing in Namibia since 2011.

He started his ODI career in 2019. In that match, he plays against Oman and his last ODI match is against the United Arab Emirates in 2020. He started his T20 career in 2019 playing against Ghana and his last T20 match was against PNG in 2021. In 2018, he was selected in the Namibia squad for the ICC world cricket league division two tournament.

In March 2019, he was named as the captain of Namibia in the ICC world cricket league division two tournament. He is the key player in the Namibia squad for ICC T20 world cup 2021. Before this, he was selected many times as captain in many matches. He is a 26 years old young player. He also played in Namibia under 19 as well as in international matches.

History of Namibia Cricket Team

Namibia cricket team is the team that represents the Republic of Namibia and is governed by cricket Namibia, it is a part of the international cricket council (ICC). Namibia cricket team is a member of the international cricket council since 1992. At first cricket in Namibia is announced in 1914 after the first world war by South African troops in a prisoner war camp near Otjiwarongo. After that, cricket was spread all over the area and became the most liked game in that region.

Namibia cricket team took part in the 2003 world cup in South Africa. They lost the game. they played every season of the ICC Intercontinental Cup. They are also known as Eagles. ICC region of the Namibian cricket team in Africa. In the 2001 ICC trophy in Canada, Namibia has reached the finals in the Toronto cricket cup but lose the match against the Netherlands. This is the main reason for getting a space in the 2003 world cup. In 2002, Namibia hosted the ICC 6 Nations Challenge in April.

After this, they had a disappointing tournament in the Africa cup campaign in September. In this tournament, they beat only Tanzania and looses four matches against Zimbabwe. After that, they win four matches against Kenya and played a very successful tournament. They also take part in the top level of South Africa domestic one-day cricket but lost all five matches. In January 2003, they win all five matches against Bangladesh.

Then the world cup started on the 10th of February 2003 and Namibia debut in one day international. In this match, Namibia won by 86 runs In august 2003, Namibia won the one-day series against Zimbabwe by 2-1. Many matches are played with Zimbabwe after 2003, January Namibia tours to Zimbabwe and will all five matches against Zimbabwe.

After the world cup, the players of Namibia are full confidence about their matches. In 2006, Namibia plays against Nepal and the match was drawn in the 2006 ICC intercontinental cup. In 2018, ICC decided to give full T20 international status to all members of the Namibia cricket team. Namibia’s first T20 international match was against Ghana and Namibia won the match by 9 wickets.

This match was played in Kyambogo Cricket Oval in Kampala. In July 2020, the Namibian men’s team won the ICC associate member men’s performance of the year award. After that Namibia get ODI full status by International Cricket Council. The highest score of the team is 324/7 against Oman on the 8th of January 2020.
