Graham Kennedy joins Ireland’s T20 World Cup squad

The surprise starter was Graham Kennedy, the left-arm spinning all-rounder who scored seven runs in five innings.

Kennedy was also selected for the ODI series against Zimbabwe but is yet to make his debut for Ireland.

Andy McBrine, Ireland national team back-up: Graham Ford

McBride could pick only one wicket in two matches in a limited-overs leg against Zimbabwe and Ireland head coach Graham Ford said the off-spinner will be used as a backup option if he caught the COVID-19 virus.

“He [McBrine] comes as a backup. The way Simi knocked in a place. We are going into this World Cup campaign and should be covered for covid or injury. It’s not a brainer, and he has an automatic option at 18,” Ford was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.

Lochan Taker and Neil Lock will struggle for the first wicketkeeper-place in Ireland’s XI, while Ford doesn’t know much about the side and will see the second leg of the IPL.

“We are not going to say who is the first choice wicketkeeper. There is competition between the players. There’s a lot going on before the game, including the manga, left versus a right hand. The choice for a game may be different from the next. That’s what Ford said.

“We have a lot to do with the study of the opposing team and once we understand who is in that team, we are not always in statistics and things, we have to consider the conditions- we will see how the wicket plays, especially towards the end of ipl- it will all be known for selection. It’s an 18-man squad with covers and options. “

Ireland will have to qualify first in Oman and will be paired with Zambia, the Netherlands, and Sri Lanka in ICC T20 World Cup qualifier Group A.
