Lungi Ngidi, a South African cricketer, was born on March 29 1996,in Durban, Kwa Zulu – Natal, South Africa. He plays for the South Africa national cricket team, and in the Indian premier league, he plays for Chennai Super Kings. He made his debut against India on January 13 2018, his ODI debut in February 2018 against India and his T20I debut against Sri Lanka on January 20 2017. The South African Cricket Annual Awards named lungi Ngidi one of the five cricketers of the year in 2018.
Lungi Ngidi, at age 13, started playing cricket in the provincial age-group cricket, and he represented Kwa Zulu Natal Under 19. In 2016 he made his first debut for the Northerns.
Chennai Super Kings bought Lungi Ngidi in January 2018 in the 2018 IPL auction, and in October, he was named in Tshwane Spartans’ squad for the first edition of the Mzansi Super League T20 tournament. In March 2019, he was one of the eight players to watch by the International Cricket Council (ICC) ahead of the 2019 Indian Premier League Tournament.
He was named to the Tshwane Spartans team for the 2019 Mzansi Super League tournament in September 2019. Delhi Capitals bought him in February 2022 in the auction for the 2022 Indian Premier League tournament.
Lungi Ngidi was included in South Africa’s Twenty 20 International (T20I) squad for their series against Sri Lanka in January 2017. He made his debut on January 20 2017, for South Africa against Sri Lanka, and he was awarded man of the match. Lungi Ngidi was named in the South Africa squad for their One Day International (O D I) against Sri Lanka during the T20I series, although he was ruled out due to an abdominal injury. He was later added to the South Africa Test squad ahead of the second test against India in January 2018. He made his test debut on January 13 and returned figures of 7/87, 6/39 second innings as South Africa won by 135 runs.
In February 2018, he made his ODI debut against India after being named on South Africa’s One Day International (O D I) squad in January 2018.
Cricket South Africa awarded Lungi Ngidi a national contract in March 2018 ahead of the 2018 – 19 season, and later was named in the South Africa squad for cricket for the Cricket World Cup in April 2019.
In the second ODI against Australia on March 4 2020, Lungi Ngidi took his first five-haul, and he became the fastest in South Africa in the exact match.
