West Indies won today’s match against Bangladesh with three runs to open their point table. After poor batting performance by team bowlers made a strong comeback and made them win.

Match no 23 of ICC 20 Wc between defending champions West Indies and three runs win Bangladesh West Indies. Bangladesh Skipper Mehmudullah won the toss and decided to bowl first on Sharjah Cricket ground. Their bowlers made their captain’s decision pretty well by picking some early wickets in the powerplay. 

West Indies team started their inning with Chris Gayle and Evin Lewis. But Bangladesh bowlers didn’t make them score double-digit runs. Gayle got bowled out bowling of Mehendi Hasan in the second over of the match. Pacer M. Rehman caught evin Lewis out. West Indies lost their two wickets in the powerplay in 4.2 overs. On the slower pitch of Sharjah, the Indies batsman wasn’t looking in touch.

They lost their third wicket S.Hetmyer in the 6th over on 32 runs. He hit one boundary. Skipper K. Pollard was looking uncomfortable while running between wickets. He had to get out by retired hurt on eight runs. One down batsman Roston Chase kept fighting from one end though wickets were falling from another. He played a knock of 39 runs in 46 balls with the help of 2 fours.

Andre Russell had to get out by running out on the throw of Taskin Ahmed. In the end, wicket-keeper batters Nicholas Pooran smashed 40 runs in 22 balls with four mighty sixes and one boundary. WI lost Pooran and Chase on two continuous bowls of Shoriful Islam. S. Islam broke their crucial partnership of 57 runs in the 19th over. In the last two overs, with the help of two sixes, Jason’s Holder made 15 runs in 5 deliveries and made their team set a target of 142 runs.

A dominant performance by Bangladesh

Bangladesh bowlers showed fully dominant performance today. They picked early wickets. Break the partnerships at important moments. 

Taskin Ahmed was the most economical bowler with 17 runs in 4 his over spell. Pacers Shriful Islam and Mustafizur Rahman picked two wickets each and counted 20 and 43 runs, respectively. Spinner Shakib completed his four-over and spent 28 runs. Legg spinner Mehendi Hasan picked two wickets in his spell with 27 runs.

After a stumbling start, Bangladesh clinches in- target overs

On the bowling-friendly pitch of Sharjah, West Indies bowlers picked two early wickets in the powerplay. Bangladesh opens its innings with Shakib Al Hasan and Mohammad Naim. Both couldn’t make any impact and got out on 17 and 9 runs, respectively. Naim got bowled out by Holder, and Hasan got out by Russell. Bangladesh lost both openers in 5.4 overs.

After their wickets, Bangladesh made a short partnership of 31 runs between Soumya Sarkar and Liton Das. Saumya had to get out by AkealHosein on 17 runs. He hit two boundaries. Fourth down batters Musfiqur Rahim also couldn’t make any impact. He scored only eight runs. Liton das was the highest scorer with 44 runs in 43 balls with four fours.

West Indies bowlers fought till last and made them win

Defining the target of 143 runs West Indies team made a great start by picking both openers in the powerplay. Pacer bowler Jason Holder was the most economical bowler from their side. He picked one wicket with 22 runs. Spinner Akeal Husein also picked one wicket with 24 runs. R.Rompaul and A.Russell also picked one wicket each. Dwayne Bravo was the most expensive bowler among all.

West Indies will face Sri Lanka in their next match on 4th November at Shaikh Zayed Stadium. Bangladesh has the challenge of South Africa on 2nd November at on the same venue.
